Blush Vs Bronzer

blush vs bronzer

What is blush?

Blush is used to add a hint of color to the cheekbones to give your skin a naturally flushed look much as you would have on a cold Winter’s Day. The addition of color to the cheekbones helps lift the face and give the skin a more youthful appearance.

What is bronzer?

Bronzer, on the other hand, is used to give the skin a sun-kissed appearance as though it has been tanned by the sun, but without the risk of UV exposure. While bronzer can be applied as blush, bronzer is better suited when applied horizontally across the cheekbones, forehead, and bridge of the nose. These are the areas where the sun would bronze your skin naturally.

Selecting the Right Shade of Blush

When selecting a blush, it is important that it complements your skin. To make it appear natural, we recommend selecting a shade closest to that of your flushed cheeks.

For fair skin, we recommend a light pink or peach blush. If you have medium skin, we recommend a medium pink or berry color. For dark skin, we recommend a deep reddish-purple or fuchsia. Avoid selecting a shade that is too dark as it could make your skin look orangey.

Selecting the Right Shade of Bronzer

There is a little more involved when selecting a bronzer as you want it to match the undertones of your skin. If you have warm undertones, then it is best to use a bronzer with a gold or peach hue. In contrast, if your skin has cool undertones, then it is best to use a bronzer with more of a blue hue.

You can also use select bronzers to contour your face. If selecting a bronzer to contour your face, a good rule of thumb is to select a bronzer, preferably matte, that is two shades darker than your natural skin tone.

Bronzer Versus Contour

While bronzer and contour are very similar, bronzer is mainly used to add warmth to the face, while contour adds depth and dimension. Bronzer is applied to the parts of the face where the sun naturally hits it to make it appear as those your skin has been bronzed. Contour, on the other hand, is carefully applied to parts of the face to make them appear more sculpted and defined. It is commonly used to create a narrower nose or sharper jawline.
